Retirement living in the spotlight

Getting older is something that happens to all of us, but often people don’t spare much thought for this period of their lives until they find themselves in it. You can suddenly find yourself looking for care homes in West Sussex and the whole situation can be quite overwhelming.

The issue of retirement living is rising up the political and social agenda, with various new pension schemes and policies recently being announced. A current BBC documentary series has also been exploring issues connected to post-work living and life after retirement.

Called When I’m 65, the season of programmes is already underway. Commenting on the motivation behind the series, the BBC said: “It’s an inescapable fact, everyone grows old. The over 65s are the fastest growing age group in Britain and by 2030 it’s estimated that a quarter of the population will be over the age of 65.

“Confronting the issues facing the elderly has become one of the UK’s biggest priorities and some of Britain’s most familiar faces from television are getting involved.”

Among the famous faces to get involved in the programmes were Tony Robinson, 65, Gloria Hunniford, 71 and John Simpson, 67.

A home away from home

Making the transition from fully independent living to a care home isn’t always easy, but thankfully, there are superb homes available as long as you know where to look. If you are keen to find somewhere for yourself or someone you care for, you may benefit from investigating Barlavington Manor Care Home.

We are located in the beautiful West Sussex countryside overlooking the South Downs and just minutes away from the town of Petworth. We are the perfect sanctuary for those who want to feel relaxed and at home, while also benefiting from the care and support they need. We also have a dedicated Dementia and Alzheimer’s unit.
